Here I will add collection of my tips and suggestions for Rive App
I am a new user, but senior when it comes to animation software, motion graphics, UI, web design. Hoping I will be able to edit this thread and as I work in Rive I have various ideas that might be useful to improve it.
- Nested frames are not updating real time in main frame. I saw people already writing about this. Even simplest timeline animations are not updating. This is kinda important.
- Rive should sort its treatment of time. Time is crucial in animation, and I want to be able to understand timecode with ease. SMPTE is on timeline, duration of timeline transitions is in milliseconds. Enable it all. SMPTE, milliseconds, frames everywhere where time is shown. I sometimes love to work with frames and adding option to change to whatever user likes is good practice
- snapping works, but most modern software today has smart guides with gaps and measurements display. that's missing as an option
- it bothers me there is no import of other rive files. I am beginner in Rive so I may not know other ways to handle this. But I see Rive as a way to create interactive prototypes that I am not able to do with Figma or other software. Sometimes it's easier to work on separate thing and import it in main project
- when mentioning Figma, it has really weird way to import Figma svgs. You import them (by dragging them to app), then you see some weird thumbnail representation of svg file but you have to generate frame to get it. Then you have a frame you didn't wanted. Then you copy from it. Why not just treating svgs same as images. Or at least add an options on import. Also, again no import option so you have to drag files from wherever they are. Just add import and don't mess with ages old UX.
- also, way to expensive for something still in beta. Even if I master it completely, I don't think $49 monthly is a fair price. If I need animated icon for website, or small animation I have other free options so don't be greedy and you will be able to grow with us users.
